Standardizing Our Gift Types and Levels
As the Namaste Foundation builds momentum in its gift giving, we’ve decided to formalize the naming conventions around our varying gift levels.
Here is our new framework for gift types, in ascending order of size:
- Seed Gifts - These are micro gifts. We’re excited by the idea, story, or people involved. Often this will be something we encounter on crowd funding sites or in casual environments.
- Support Gifts - We’ve gotten to further understand the vision of the team and we want to support the cause.
- Impact Gifts - We’ve developed conviction through research, references, and conversations that our donation will really make an impact. Funds will be used in an efficient manner. The organization has built a model that considers scale and sustainability.
- Beautiful World Gifts - We’ve become very passionate about the organization and believe they're doing incredible work in creating a more beautiful world. We believe the donation will compound and multiply. We want to be helpful in other ways as possible.
We’re consciously choosing to use the word gift instead of grant, as gift more fully aligns with our intent. Generally speaking, we’re not interested in adding specific constraints for how the funds are used. We trust the organization will be a wise steward of the donation.
This new framework helps set the stage for our plans to create a more formal application process. For now, please simply contact us if you’d like to be considered for a future gift (we appreciate your patience as it may take us awhile to respond).
We will reassess the gift levels annually based on funds availability. Here are the ranges for 2014:
2014 Gift Types and Levels
Seed Gift: <$5k
Support Gift: $5k - <$25k
Impact Gift: $25k - <$100k (usually $25k or $50k)
Beautiful World Gift: $100k and above
Blog posts will refer to the gift name (e.g. Impact Gift) rather than exact dollar amount (e.g $25k), where applicable. We will publish a full list of organizations, donation amounts, and other financial information in an Annual Report at the end of the calendar year.
We’re more excited than ever by all the great causes and inspiring entrepreneurs out there. The time is now to compound resources, use technology wisely, and build scalable solutions for our world!
Update: Visit our Gifts page to see a list of the organizations we've supported. 2015 and 2016 gift levels are the same as 2014.
