Joy

Do you have it? Do you want it? How do you get it?

I have joy in my life. Am I in the minority? I don't think so. If you don't have it, maybe it's because you don't recognize it. I don't profess to be an expert on joy. I'm not a psychologist, a Tony Robbins type motivational speaker, or a minister. I'm just a guy who's lived 50-plus years with moments of clarity sprinkled in.

I do know joy when it slaps me in the face. When my eight-year-old daughter squeals with delight when she reads a funny part in a Harry Potter book. When I'm playing my guitar with good musicians.

One image from the 2002 Winter Olympics, when figure skater Sarah Hughes finished her final performance -- the last note cuts off and Sarah spins to a stop and the camera is right on her face. Just after that moment, when she knows, she knows, that what she just did was magical, was transcendent; Just at that moment, when her face is beaming... she gasps! You can see in her eyes what I would call Total Joy. It's a moment I'll never forget. See the whole performance here.

What about you? Do you have a moment to share, a joyous slice of time that transcends all? Send me an email and I'll post a few of them here. I would love to hear from you!

By the way, what do you do now that brings you joy? Do you have something but don't feel like you're worthy enough to do it? I believe one of our purposes here on earth is the pursuit of joy. If you are not doing anything about bringing joy into your life, what's holding you back?

Remember, I'm not an expert. I'm just asking...
